A rich legacy:

Storytellers of every hue entertain with stories about "black people." Indeed, we are a very entertaining people. But...there is Blackstorytelling: narratives, legends, tall tales and teen-nintsy tales, that spin out of the sweet black core that is the evidence of our struggle to humanize environments into which we have been thrust.

Payin' our dues:

Blackstorytelling League of Rochester, Inc. came forth in 1993. Fussin' and stumblin', but always workin' at uncovering pathways to the source. And of course we are a proud member of the National Association of Black Storytellers (NABS).

A novel idea for effective communication

Literacy is at the heart of all our programs: from cave pictographs and the oral tradition, to "book learning" and the flow of poetry, to interactive theatre- and soon web-based training - all these learning techniques are incorporated into the artistry that is Blackstorytelling. Bring it to your students, colleagues, and audiences as an inventive and effective way to actualize your mission. Tell us what you think, about the Festival, Blackstorytelling opportunities, or any topic on your mind with a short e-mail to our President, Robin Nowell.

One part good idea, two parts story
